About
oltreoceano is an independent magazine dedicated to understanding, promoting, and highlighting the culture of the African American community for a European audience. This project was founded in Italy in 2022 with the aim of exploring the diverse impact this multifaceted culture has had, continues to have, and will have on the Western world—especially on those living in Europe.
Aware that our personal experiences and identities profoundly shape the way we interpret reality, we have pursued from the outset the goal of offering fresh tools for understanding, through meticulous research and the collection of direct sources. Our approach is aimed at deconstructing our biases so that our content reflects a plurality of perspectives. The viewpoint of oltreoceano is intentionally non-neutral, grounded in a decolonial critique of American society and its global impact.
Our editorial project centers on in-depth content. We produce long-form monographic and multimedia research, which is available for free on our website in both English and Italian. The issues published online throughout the year, enriched with exclusive and unpublished material, culminate in This Is America, our annual printed volume.
oltreoceano is an independent, collective, pluralistic, multicultural, and non-profit editorial initiative. It was born from the collaboration of individuals with diverse cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds. From this meeting—first in Italy, then across Europe—our community was born: a real, dynamic, and interconnected community that resonates with our mission.
